Central Securities Depository of Iran has joined the Association of Eurasian Central Securities Depositories (AECSD).
The Association of Eurasian CSD (AECSD) is an elite organization of 16 Central Securities Depositories in 15 countries of the Eurasia region. Central Securities Depository of Iran (CSDI), as the one and only infrastructure provider, registrar, safe-keeper, depository and clearinghouse in the Iranian capital market, joined the group following an extraordinary General Meeting prior to the 19th AECSD AGM 20-22 September, 2023 in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan.
Today, the AECSD is a dynamically developing professional association that brings together experience and achievements of market infrastructure institutions and securities market participants of different counties. The AECSD takes an active part in initiatives of the World Forum of CSDs (WFC), sharing experience and exchanging opinions, coordinating industry initiatives, and participating in a dialog with regulators and other organizations all over the world.
In an address to the participants of the 2023 AECSD Annual General Meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of Central Securities Depository of Iran hailed the trust and confidence the members placed in CSDI, showcasing a unanimous vote of confidence.
Mohammad Baghestani said CSDI’s decision to join the Association was based on an in-depth review of AECSD’s past record of joint actions towards enhancing accessibility and inclusivity within the regional market.
He went on to say, “We look forward to contributing our expertise and energy to furthering the Association's missions and values, while tapping into the wealth of knowledge and collaboration offered by AECSD's members.”
“It is essential to our differences dividing our markets to become a thing of the past to give way to mutual understanding, a multilateral balance of interests, and an awareness of our common destiny.”, Baghestani added.
CSDI’s membership in the Association is a step towards enhancing cooperation with the Eurasian continent, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experiences in various fields of CSD industry, and contributing to the Association’s efforts to serve the common interests of its members and the region.
CSDI’s interest in membership to international organizations stems from years of experience working based on data-based policy-making and to promote and advance services, programs and policies that emerge as a more efficient institutional arrangement.
The AECSD's mission is to provide a platform for sharing ideas for development and enhancement of depository operations, creating a common depository space, and integrating the AECSD’s CSD members into the global securities settlement system.
The International Conference on Issues of CSDs Cooperation 2004 in Moscow marked a milestone in the history, where the participants made a decision to establish the Association.
